My husband and I have three kids and we all but work. In fact, we don’t even get a normal vacation. Three years ago we took an apartment on a mortgage for twenty years. I’m sick of wandering around renting apartments. You just can’t earn money for your own place. So we took a loan to pay it off, but we live in our own apartment. We haven’t been on vacation for three years, there is no time. We want to pay as soon as possible and live in peace. In the summer the kids do not go to school, and we are constantly at work, so there is no one to look after them.
Last year, my mother-in-law expressed a desire to help us. She wanted us to bring the children to her in the summer, she is retired now and has time. So we agreed. When we take the children to her, we always take a car full of groceries, we also give them money for the children’s wants, that is, my mother-in-law does not buy anything for her children with her money.
And what will she buy. Her pension is pennies, and we feel sorry for her. Sometimes we give her money personally, too. It’s still much cheaper for us than if we hired a nanny. Basically everyone is fine with it.
My husband has a brother who also has three children. And so he decided to take his own, too, to his mother-in-law. His children are not only very rude and younger than ours, which means they need constant supervision. So he didn’t bring any food for them, and he didn’t give them any money. We were basically feeding them, out of our own pockets.
Is that normal? I’ve told my husband many times to talk to my brother, but he does nothing. Why do I have to work hard to feed other people’s kids? How would it be right to talk to him, without a scandal?
