It so happened that my husband and I both sat at home for quarantine. So we did, and we ran out of money. We had to do something urgently, before payday left about a week, and the money available rubles five hundred. Not much.
Of course, there was no reason to worry, there was still some food in the fridge. We’ll make it through (I’m kidding now, of course).
So, here we remembered one of our debtors. The amount he certainly promised us not a lot, but which would now be very handy.
While I was making tea, my husband had already found the right number and kept hitting the phone buttons. When finally the phone was picked up, my husband started talking in an authoritative tone, with demands for immediate money, but after a minute I noticed a sharp change of tone in his voice, and then the words of apology and consolation.
He hung up the phone and told me this. It turned out that our debtor’s mother had died and he was going to bury her soon. We, being decent people, of course, did not claim his debt and agreed to wait.
A couple of weeks later, my husband and I decided to make vinaigrettes, and to do that we went to the nearest vegetable store on our way home. We bought what we needed. We were about to leave when suddenly for ourselves we ran into the “dead” mother of a debtor. I even mentally I even crossed myself mentally.
I had never seen my husband so angry. We immediately got in the the car and drove to the home of the “grieving” offspring. Who, not only was he… dead drunk, and he flatly refused to take his word for it.
My husband was about to make sense of him physically, when suddenly he gave in, and confessed to us that it was the first thing that came to mind at the time. So he decided to lie. After that, he went into the room, and came back with a bag of money owed to us. We never saw him again after that.
So tell me, how can we still trust and believe people after something like that?
