Stories about moms with many children and low-income families vary. Some moms who put themselves in this category think they are special. Do you know anyone like that? This year I was lucky enough to chair the parents’ committee at a kindergarten and ran into such a young lady.
The children had moved on to the graduating class. We had a girl from such a family. She was no different from the other children. Neither her behavior nor her appearance.
Her daddy was a working man. He worked several jobs to keep afloat. Mom stayed home and gave birth to new family members. My father came to the meetings, so I hadn’t even seen his wife before. Our tutor paid a lot of attention to this girl. Since all the children went to the paid training, and she did not – Alice after-hours for a “thank you” taught her to read, write, properly express their thoughts.
In general, everyone pitied this girl. And so every time we collected money, we put it in reserve, so that this child was not left without a gift on March 8 or the New Year’s holidays. Other parents sympathized, worried that the little girl wouldn’t get upset.
But when it came to graduation, the amount of gifts was more impressive. Victoria’s mother came to the meeting and indignantly declared that they had no money for such excesses. However, she did not look like a beggar: iPhone last model, manicure, false eyelashes.
And there was the graduation party. Gifts were distributed to all, and Victoria was left empty-handed. Her mother rushed at me and started yelling at me to quickly congratulate me and her daughter graduation. I tried to explain that we had spent three years on gifts for her daughter, we warned her in advance that we had to give a certain amount, so only her fault that Victoria was left without a present.
– You are obliged to just give us a gift because we are a low-income family. I’ll sue you,” she shouted at me.
That’s when I realized that I had dug a hole for myself with my kindness.
