My husband’s late relative often invited guests to her house, and many relatives, acquaintances, friends roamed with her. Some stayed for one night, some for a week, but she never refused anyone. She and her husband were people of the widest souls. We stayed with her ourselves, so I could see that from my own experience.
In the 90’s she was diagnosed with cancer. The family had enough money, that is, the treatment was the best and the most expensive. My relatives decided to take my aunt to Germany. I had my friend there, I gave her contacts. But Rebecca was sure that her own niece would meet her and take her in.
She helped her in her time, too. For five years, Anna lived with Rebecca and her husband on full support. The younger brother of the head of the family purposefully sent her daughter to study in the capital university, because he knew that the kind aunt would not refuse.
All five years the niece did not even go home – all the problems were solved by relatives, including financial difficulties. Only after graduation Anna vacated the apartment.
After her studies, the niece met her future husband and left for Germany. By the way, the potential son-in-law also stayed at Rebecca’s for several months – she never said a word to him.
So Rebecca bought a plane ticket and called her niece, and in response heard:
– How many days to book a hotel?
My aunt hung up on me out of surprise. She did not expect such a turnaround. Indeed, the niece does not owe anything, and they were not forced to drag the girl on their necks for five years. But where is the basic human gratitude?
Just so you understand, the niece lived in a huge house together with her husband. There would have been enough room there for a whole delegation. But!
My aunt and uncle had booked a hotel room for themselves, my friend did not want to bother. They were offended, because they were sure that my niece would be happy to meet them. Moreover, they originally planned to stay in a hotel, but thought that Anna would be offended. Naive.
