I’m going to share with you a recent story that happened to me. I wasn’t friends with any of my neighbors, and I didn’t really know anyone. But I didn’t have any conflicts either. We lived peacefully and quietly, without disturbing each other. Our house was old, so we had to change some things over time. One day my kitchen pipe burst. The water started coming down to the neighbors. I didn’t know about it, because the pipe was behind the kitchen furniture.
And then my downstairs neighbor came to me and made a scandal that I had flooded their whole apartment. My prank has ruined their expensive repairs, and now I owe them a huge amount. I did not expect this, I was shocked and had no idea that the pipe is faulty. Okay, I offer her to go down and see what they have a flood. But my neighbor won’t let me in. And since I am not allowed to assess the damage, I will not compensate anything. I personally need to make sure that everything is as terrible as I was told.
My neighbor left and I started checking where the pipe was leaking. It turned out that the leak was so small that it could not cause much damage. I called a plumber, got a new pipe, everything was done very quickly. Decided to go down to my neighbor’s house for clarity. The door was opened for me by a neighbor. I told him that the pipe had been replaced and there would be no more leaks. I offered to compensate the damage, if they would let me assess the damage myself. I wouldn’t take my word for it.
The neighbor said indignantly that he was able to assess the damage himself. They demanded a hundred thousand from me and wouldn’t let me into their apartment so I wouldn’t steal anything from them. I silently turned away and went back to my apartment. My neighbor shouted after me that he was going to sue me. I replied that I agreed.
A couple of days later I got a call from the insurance company where my neighbor’s apartment was insured. They told me that the damage was estimated at 35,000 rubles and now everything had to be solved with the company. I agreed to pay this sum. The company closed the matter. I had already forgotten about what had happened. But it didn’t turn out that easy.
A week later, the neighbors came and started demanding more money because they couldn’t keep up with the amount paid. In their opinion, I owed them another seventy thousand rubles. I answered that from now on I would only deal with the insurance company employees. But they were not satisfied with that. Then I began to realize that the neighbors had just decided to take advantage of me and I closed the door on them.
However, the neighbors came up with a new move. After a while their neighbor called me and told me they hired an independent expert and he estimated the damage already at three hundred thousand rubles. I asked them for a document of this expert. I looked through it, took photos and then started reading about this company on the internet. At first glance, the document looked real. The neighbors said that now they would go to court again.
I am at a loss as to what to do. I am convinced that the expert report is either fake or they made it for money. There is a very big difference between the assessment of the insurance company and this firm.
