My husband and I saved up some money, sold our old apartment and realized a dream of many years – a private sector by the sea! Small, but enough room for two with a child.
Over time, our friends began to write in social networks, about how cool it is to live by the sea, and now they definitely need to visit for a few days in the summer. At the same time we did not give any approving invitations. At first it was all perceived in a joking form, they say before the arrival of guests to finish the repairs need, and then accept the stripped ceiling and bare walls indecent, or that relatives have taken a line for the next few years, not that friends! But to retreat apparently none of my friends were not going to, more and more often reminding about themselves.
Closer to summer, calls and texts increased with numerous questions: “and how is the weather there?”, “when you call me?”, “and you can stay a couple of days, improve your health by sunbathing?” – our nerves were at the limit. Why was it that in the old town we were visited once a year, and then at the request of some business, and now we were abruptly rewired to become best friends?
We decided to overstep the bounds of politeness and explain to everyone that we wanted solitude, not hotel life, we only accept parents for a short period of time. Most of the people we knew were offended right away, and the other half got on board, but there were no more attempts at just keeping in touch. Everyone didn’t give a damn about our plans, interests, or long-standing friendship. What would you have done in such a situation? Would you have been able to assert your personal boundaries?
