One day I saw my contented sister in a store, walking with a respectable man by the hand, and they had rings

Laura had a twin sister named Rebecca. They had been close friends with her since birth. They played common games, shared secrets, and received punishments together. When necessary, they stood up for each other. Their clothes were the same. Even when they grew up, nothing changed. Though they had the ability to choose their own clothes. But they liked to look alike – they were proud of their twin status.

The girls lived modestly with their parents. They had an average income. So when Laura went to college, Rebecca decided to follow her example, but she could not. So she was very disappointed. And so were her parents. Only they kept paying tuition so that both daughters would have a chance to get a good education. Rebecca was very ashamed, because money was scarce as it was, and then she had to pay for it. She literally burned with shame. Only on the budget to transfer her failed. No matter how hard she tried.

One night at dinner, the grandmother of the twin girls drank too much, chattered and opened the veil over a secret. As it turned out, when her parents had two daughters, they thought about giving up their youngest. Afraid not to pull the twin girls. And the youngest was Rebecca.

The girl was unpleasantly surprised and outraged by such injustice. No matter how she was reassured, but all in vain. She thought that she was loved less than her sister and then decided to do her parents out of spite – she went and took her documents from the university.

Plus, she started blaming everything on her sister – in her absence, no one would have thought to get rid of Rebecca. She would have been the dearest, the most loved, and the only one. She would have been the only one taken care of. From that day on, everything in their family had gone upside down. And they were no longer so friendly. The twins began to live apart from each other.

Laura found a husband, married him, and had a son. They never saw their sister. They only once met at their parents’ house. And Rebecca was not ceremonious – she began to snap, rude and criticize her sister’s appearance.

The next meeting happened by chance in the middle of a mall. Rebecca looked chic next to a respectable man who clearly had weight and status. Laura thought it was her husband.

She rushed to hug Rebecca, and the latter took a step back and wondered – supposedly not knowing this woman. Vala felt uncomfortable. She stood stock-still, and her sister went to the exit and got into a fancy car.

One day they had to meet again at her parents’ house. Rebecca attacked Laura and berated her for not looking her best. Allegedly she did not look presentable and untidy, disgracing her.

There was some truth in her words. After all, Laura had curly hair and preferred not to wear makeup and dress simply. Rebecca, on the other hand, wore makeup, styled her hair, wore lenses instead of glasses, and could afford grooming treatments.

Laura was very offended. She was outraged at her sister’s words. After all, she is in no way worse than she is, she also has a family, a husband, a child. She began to complain to her mother about her sister and tell her everything she had accumulated over the years. She did not understand how her own sister, with whom they had been so close, could just change into a bitch. Where had such hatred come from?

All her mother had done was to ask Laura not to hold a grudge against Rebecca. Let her be happy. Asked her not to approach her under any circumstances and not to spoil her life.

From that time on, Laura could only come and visit her parents after calling or inviting them in advance, so that she and her sister would not cross paths. It turns out that after one phrase, the lives of all family members changed forever
