The narrator is a man. He is 38 years old. He is married and is raising his son Rayan, who is now 9 years old. The boy grows up good: smart, likes to read, indifferent to all sorts of toys. One day a man and his wife had to leave town. They decided to leave their son with his brother. They didn’t want to hire a nanny. No trust in them. My wife’s brother also has a child of the same age. They thought everything would be okay until the son called. He was talking through tears.
We had to go to another city to sell my grandmother’s apartment. As soon as there were buyers, my wife and I decided to go. It took a few days to process the paperwork. We took my son to my brother’s house. We didn’t think anything could happen to him there. We have a very impressionable and clever boy. It happens so that he joins in the adult conversation. Who would have thought that would be a problem for my brother’s wife.
Upon arriving in town, we immediately got busy with the paperwork. When we got free, we went to an acquaintance’s house. Immediately we called my son. The conversation went smoothly. We could rest. The next day we started to draw up the deal, got money, took the things out of the apartment. All the stuff was done closer to the evening. Already we were going to go to my friend. And then the phone rang. It was my son. He wanted me to pick him up from his brother, he was crying a lot. Naturally I wondered: what could have happened? Ryan told me that Uncle yelled at him and left him standing in the corner. Next thing I know, I hear my brother yelling, taking the phone from his son. The call was cut off. I tried to call back, but the phone was off. Understandably, my wife and I began to worry. We started calling my wife’s brother, but he didn’t answer.
Without much thought or delay I went home. Three hours later we arrived. My brother was sitting in the kitchen drinking alcohol. And my son was standing in the corner in the other room, all crying.
He stood there for over four hours. I went to my brother and began to find out why he had allowed himself to treat my son like that.
The answer I got was that my son was asking too many questions and not letting me rest in peace after work. And in order to teach him a lesson that adults should not be disturbed, I decided to put him in a corner. I did not continue the conversation. I took my son and went home.
Rayan found it hard to calm down. It was three hours later when he fell asleep. The next day I started to ask my son about everything that had happened.
It went like this. My brother and wife started arguing among themselves. After that, the brother immediately grabbed a glass of vodka. When the son saw all of this, he decided to come up and reprimand the adult man: it is considered disrespectful to behave disrespectfully toward women, to shout at them. Such advice made his brother angry. So he decided to punish the child for choosing to lecture.
