– Meet. This is your grandfather Philip!

Philip and I first met when I was 17 years old. He was five years older than me. He was a city boy and I was a commuter. It didn’t affect our communication in any way. At first we were close friends, and then we started dating. A year later our mutual child was born.

I had to go back home, as I was not allowed to live with my son in the dormitory. Filip didn’t want to work or solve the apartment problem – he was fine as he was. Naturally, all my relatives and fellow villagers condemned me. But I didn’t do anything wrong!

I knew I couldn’t give up, because I had a little kid. I devoted every minute of my time to him. When he grew up, I went back to school. During that time there was no one to help me. My parents let me stay with them, but they didn’t take any part in their grandson’s life. I had to experience the role of a single mother.

At first Philip called and asked how we were doing, and then he disappeared. He found another girl, he thought he was young and free. Yeah, well, the baby lived with me. I howled in pain. I didn’t sleep, I didn’t eat. Sometimes I didn’t want to live, but I didn’t even think about giving up the baby. He was the meaning of my life.

I was mentally broken, but I knew that I had to be patient a little longer and it would get easier.

And now I am 40 years old.

My son is an adult. He served in the army, got higher education, got married. I raised a real man, a kind and sympathetic man. Now I have two granddaughters. I try to help the children, I often take the girls to my house and spend active time with them.

And you know, I am a completely happy person. All the hurts and difficulties are behind me. I decided to celebrate this anniversary in a small family circle. As soon as we sat down at the festive table, the bell sounded.

I opened the door and there was Philip. He stood there with a gift and flowers. I did not start a scandal, and just invited him to the table.

– Meet. This is your Grandpa Philip! – I introduced him to the family.

The son threw me a questioning look, and then hugged his father. They looked a lot alike, so he had no doubt that Philip was his dad.

We had a great time celebrating and having fun. There were no recriminations or accusations. My son and his father were talking about something in private, but I didn’t interfere in their conversations. I made one conclusion: my son is like me, he is able to forgive and understand people.

Philip suggested that we meet again without the children. I refused. My son should have a father, but he will never be my companion again. That man has no place in my heart anymore.
