I would like to begin my story with the fact that now my military service in the Armed Forces is coming to an end. Only by some fatal accident I serve not close to home, as I was promised at first, and carried me over two borders from my place of residence.
We started dating back in high school. I was a year older than her. Her name was Anna, and she was very stately and beautiful. I fell head over heels in love with her back then. We had a wonderful relationship. But my parents didn’t approve of my choice. However, I was very willful and their opinion did not interest me.
We dated Anna for two whole years, then I was drafted into the army, because I had to, like all men, give my duty to their state. In the future I dreamed of a career in the police, I was advised by my mother, and to tell you the truth, he was a real life example to me.
Before I went into the service my parents organized a small farewell party to which I invited my comrades and my beloved. The seeing-off went as planned, and so at six in the morning I was already standing outside the enlistment office with my parents and Anna.
A long seeing-off – unnecessary tears, and so after receiving a few admonitions from my father, I was about to go for a medical preliminary examination. At that moment Anna clung to me and said she would wait for me.
The words she spoke sounded so convincing that I believed her, despite all the deplorable statistics of such promises.
My service was a mess from day one. Before I reached the distribution point I found myself in the hospital. I spent a little over a month there. When my health got better, I was sent back to the distribution center and from there to the training camp.
There I ended up in the hospital again for a few weeks because of my knee. This all happened before I was sworn in. I was lucky that this time I got competent help and was able to get rid of the disease. Then I went through eleven days of training. Then there was the oath of office and a 24-hour leave of absence.
I then went home and had a great time there. That whole day Anna and I didn’t part from each other. She seemed so happy, that even if I had any doubts they vanished. After returning to my unit I was transferred to Kaliningrad region. At that time the fun began, because already in two weeks my beloved told me that she was expecting a child.
I was over the moon at the time, since the end of my deployment coincided with her birth. Time flew by quickly and when my eleventh month of service was coming to an end my beloved told me she had been put in the maternity hospital because she was going to give birth soon. Happiness swept my head around, and so I did not even think about the fact that my beloved was eight months pregnant. At first it didn’t even seem strange to me.
Then she gave birth to a perfectly healthy and full-term son. The baby came right on time. At that very moment I suspected something amiss. After my beloved was discharged from the hospital, during one phone conversation I asked her: “Who is he from?” Anna answered that of course it was mine, and then took offense at my question.
I decided not to get to the truth, and just told her where she has to go. The mere thought that my girlfriend had gotten pregnant by another man and was now hanging her child on me was driving me crazy.
Then Anna wanted to sue for child support, but I told her she could only do that after she had taken a paternity test. She gave her consent without any excuses. After that, I wondered if this baby might actually be mine. But then why the timing did not match? Or my beloved while I was away still cheated on me with someone else?
Now my soul is torn by doubts. The worst thing is that until the end of the service is still a month away, and that is a full thirty days of mental anguish and torment. Do you think this baby can really be mine, or such a probability is equal to zero?
