We admitted a woman by referral from the antenatal clinic. She was a week away from giving birth. The woman said from the threshold that she was expecting a girl and would be writing a refusal. We looked at her with surprised eyes and kept silent. At first we blamed it on her interesting condition. We have seen so many of them before. They say they will write a rejection, but when a child is born, they do not dote on him.
A woman went into labor at night. And then it started… She told us to give her anesthesia immediately. She demanded extra attention. We didn’t pay attention to her whims. It was important to us that the baby be born alive and healthy.
Suddenly the woman in labor demanded that we give her an ultrasound scan. We only looked at each other. Why would she need an ultrasound before the birth itself? But then another contraction began, and she was no longer up to ultrasound.
The baby came into the world healthy and strong. When a woman found out that her daughter was born, she didn’t even look in her direction. She did not want to attach the baby to the breast. The next morning she wrote a refusal and left in a hurry. It turned out that her husband really wanted a son. After all, they already had two girls growing up in the family.
I will never understand such behavior. What difference does it make what sex the baby has? He’ll always be your baby. Go figure out what’s in those people’s heads.
