I am now 75 years old and for the past few years I have had one question on my mind. I have two daughters and I don’t know how to do it right. To whom to write a will for my apartment. After all, I wouldn’t want my daughters to quarrel after my death and stop communicating at all. More than once I’ve heard about such things. In fact, there is nothing worse than when relatives quarrel over material possessions.
My husband and I have tried since childhood to raise our daughters in the same conditions, to give them enough love and attention, to buy everything equally, and there never seemed to be any conflicts. But the eldest daughter didn’t think about it, she started living with her boyfriend too soon. She was only 19 when she found out she was pregnant. My father and I, of course, and the matchmakers immediately made them get married. After all, it wasn’t normal to have a baby of no one’s choosing, even in those days. The young couple would have lived happily ever after. A child was born, our grandson.
But their marriage did not last long. Our grandson was only a year old when her husband ran away, to put it bluntly. We didn’t go looking for him. Why, you can’t force yourself. And we couldn’t leave our daughter and her baby to fend for herself. We took her to our place. We had a two-room apartment, so we had room. The more so, that the younger just then went to college, lived in a dormitory in another city.
In short, all the years the eldest daughter lived with us, especially about the apartment, and she did not think, and did not hurry to get married. She kept telling us she was building her career. Of course, we did not understand what kind of career it was, that she worked as a clerk in a store. Well, never mind – it was her business. We did not spare a piece of bread for her and her grandson. We tried with my husband, earned money, helped her in any way we could. My youngest daughter got married at the age of 23. At least she was lucky to have a husband. The guy was serious, goal-oriented, and right after they married, they took out a mortgage and started to pay it off together. My husband and I helped as much as we could, but we couldn’t give him much money either. After all, we already had one daughter living with our grandson, and how much of our pension.
Then my husband fell ill, and of course one and two daughters tried to help, to make my father’s life easier, with money and everything. My husband passed away ten years ago. My eldest daughter and grandson still live with me. My youngest daughter and her husband still pay the mortgage. And now I feel that my hour is coming to say goodbye. But who to leave the apartment? How to properly divide it? The older has no housing at all, and the younger has a mortgage. I help one, the other will be offended. Or maybe I should talk to them frankly? Although I know that they both have a place to live or money from it will not hurt.
