I have been married for 2 years and have a 3 month old daughter. My mother-in-law was always trying to actively participate in our family life. At times her involvement was very annoying.
After my daughter was born, the situation worsened. She gave me advice in an orderly tone. She said that I didn’t know anything about children. I decided to complain to my husband. He talked to her, but it only helped for a week. As soon as my mother-in-law crosses the threshold of our apartment, she immediately runs to the baby. She does not think it is necessary to wash hands and observe basic rules of hygiene. She says it’s all my fantasies. There’s the husband she raised me, and he didn’t grow up in sterile conditions. When you reprimand her, she looks unhappy and goes to do what you ask her to do.
It’s a nightmare when my daughter is nursing. She finds it necessary to stick her nose everywhere: “Honey, how are you feeding the girl. Give me the spoon and I’ll show you how to do it right!”
As my mother-in-law was feeding my daughter, suddenly she coughed. I snatched her out of her grasp. I started doing everything I could to make my daughter cough. Eventually a terrible scandal broke out. I pointed my mother-in-law to the door. She started to get ready for her house, screaming and yelling. On the way home she called my husband and complained about how badly I had treated her. When he came back from work he didn’t want to talk to me. I tried to figure something out, but to no avail.
Things are tense at home now. It will come to a divorce in a little while. Can you advise me how I can resolve this situation? I don’t want to lose my husband, but I don’t want to put up with his mother’s antics either.
