Someone else’s family is a dark place. Some have property splits, some have problems with alcohol or cheating, some have no common values or interests. We don’t seem to have such global problems. If it were not for my mother-in-law, everything would be perfect. I tried to get along with her for a long time, but it didn’t work out.
I know that the connection between parents and children is very close. But a mama’s boy at 37 is too much! My husband and mother-in-law have a lot of secrets of their own, they are always whispering and discussing things behind my back. They only rarely let me know.
Here’s an example – an extreme situation that happened in our family quite recently. Our son stays with my parents at the cottage almost all summer, and his mother-in-law can take him away for a week or two.
Because of the virus, my mom was left without a vacation, as she is a doctor. Daddy can’t cope with his grandson alone because of his health condition. I can’t get a vacation … That’s why we were counting on my mother-in-law. I made an appointment with her a month in advance, she didn’t say anything.
A week before the vacations a relative called me and said:
– I received a gift, so solve the problem with your grandson yourself.
I was surprised I even hung up. She set me up, because there were no other options. My mother-in-law was going to have an impeccable vacation, she didn’t care about her grandson at all. Later I learned that she was not given a trip – she bought it herself, even though she knew that our son had to be with her.
My mother-in-law asked my husband to look after the greenhouse and water the vegetable garden before he left. Since he is a busy man, this duty automatically passed on to me. But I said I wouldn’t do anything. I had my reasons:
– You set me up, decided to play a sneaky game and deceive me. And when you needed help, you remembered me right away. I will not do you any favors, you wanted to rest – rest. Your crops will dry up, but it’s not my problem.
Naturally, the relative was upset, but she did not postpone the trip. I now run around in private development schools and looking for a camp for my son, because I need somewhere to put him.
Did I do the right thing?
