Auntie, my grandmother needs medicine. Let me help!
– Go ahead, go ahead. You won’t even get that! Poor man! – The fat man teased and twirled the new machine in his hands.
– And you… fatty! – Robert shouted through his tears.
– You’re the one who’s jealous. I have a fridge full of food, and you and grandma sit on one porridge, – laughed the boy.

The boy felt so hurt that the feeling sent shivers down his body. He really grew up with his grandmother. Surviving on one pension and barely keeping afloat. The old woman was already in her old age, her health was failing her. But she held on, because she knew that no one else wanted her Robert.

– When your grandmother gets kicked out, they’ll put you in an orphanage! That’s where your merry life will begin,” the neighbor continued to tease Robert.
– Who told you that? – The poor guy was surprised.
– My mother, and she never lies.

Robert grabbed his broken typewriter he had found at the junkyard and ran home. He was so scared. He ran up to his grandmother and started hugging her.

– Grandma, just live! Please,” he cried in her arms.
– Hey, what are you doing, grandson? Who am I going to leave you with? – The old woman coughed.
– The neighbor said that you will die, and they will put me in an orphanage.
– That’s nonsense. Don’t listen to the fat man. I’m going to lie down, darling, I don’t feel well.

Robert knew that his grandmother’s condition was getting worse every day. She should go to the hospital – and she has no money. Lately all she had been doing was lying down and coughing. Robert decided to get money for medicine at any cost.

He went to the drugstore and said:

– “Auntie, my grandmother needs medicine. Let me help! I can scrub the floors or carry heavy boxes. If she dies, I’ll be an orphan.
– Serves you right, you beggar,” the pharmacist swung at Robert.
– How can you talk to the boy like that? – said the girl who was in line behind Robert.

The pharmacist’s face changed at once – she didn’t expect anyone to stick up for Robert.

– What is your grandmother in pain? – the stranger asked.
– She has a bad cough, she won’t get out of bed,” the boy whispered.
– Now we’ll buy everything. Do not worry.

The girl bought medicine and took Robert home. She had a medical degree, so she examined the old woman and made a diagnosis. Soon the relative was on the mend. The girl often visited her new friends. And when the old lady died, she adopted Robert.

Robert is now 25 years old. He is a famous surgeon in his circles.
