I have a neighbor whose name is Anna. Anna’s mother has lived alone for many years. She used to be very good at cooking. With great pleasure she cooked treats and baked pies for her whole family and always treated even the neighbors.
But Anna was always ashamed of her mother, because her mother was a simple country woman who had worked on a farm all her life. After her husband died, her mother was left alone. Anna came to visit her mother very rarely. And her mother began to forget things often, even starting to talk very badly sometimes.
One day she came to visit her mother, and she had a very strong smell of burning in her house. It turned out that she had forgotten to turn off the stove.
– What on earth are you doing? Can’t you even heat up your own food? You don’t do anything else! You’ll burn the house down! – Anna started screaming.
– Honey, I’m sorry! It’s the first time this has happened to me! – My mother began to make excuses.
As time passed, her health began to deteriorate. It became difficult for her to walk, even around the house.
One day she called Anna and said:
– Anna, I don’t feel well! My blood pressure has risen! Can you come to me?
– What am I, a doctor? Call an ambulance! – Anna answered and hung up.
Then my mother stopped going out at all, and Anna had to go with her every week. She bought the cheapest groceries for her mother, cleaned her house a little and took out the trash. And at the same time, she was always cursing very hard:
– I don’t understand how this can happen! You live alone and you manage to smear everything everywhere! You make such a terrible mess everywhere! Aren’t you ashamed?
Then Anna would slam the door and leave. In the end, Mother stopped even getting out of bed. Anna came to see her once every two days. She left food and water by her bed and left. One day she came to see her and her mother had already died. After the funeral, Anna started coming to her mother’s grave often.
Am not she began to say all the time:
– How much I miss my dear and beloved mommy! We had such a good time with her! She was the most dear and beloved person in the world to me!
Does she really remember only the good things and have she forgotten that she neglected her mother and refused to help her, that she didn’t want to take care of her? How could that be?
