After our son got married, he won’t even show his face to us. Now he’s always on his mother-in-law’s doorstep. She’s always in need of urgent help. I can’t even think how she lived until her daughter married our son.
Our son has been married for over two years. After we got married, our children started living separately from us, in the apartment we bought for our son when he was just starting college. Ever since he was a child our son has always had a mutual understanding. He began to live on his own even before the wedding, as his apartment was near his work.
I will not say that my daughter-in-law was not to my liking, it seemed to me then that the girl was just not mature enough for married life, in spite of the fact that our son was older than her by only two years. The daughter-in-law often acted like a little child and was even capricious at times. Our son was so sweet about it, and I kept thinking about how he was going to walk through life with this child.
After meeting my daughter-in-law, I understood who my daughter-in-law was. Even though my son’s mother-in-law was the same age as me, she acted like a child. You may have met people who, even in their old age, act like children. Such people are very infantile and completely helpless. At the time of my daughter’s wedding, my sister-in-law was already in her sixth divorce.
My spouse and I had no common topics of conversation, because she lived in her own world, but she did not impose on us. Our communication was limited to the fact that we politely congratulated each other on the marriage of our children and that’s all. The main trouble after the wedding was that my son actually moved in with my daughter-in-law’s mother.
The first alarm bells were ringing even before the wedding, as my daughter-in-law was constantly dragging our son to his mommy: then she had a leaky faucet, then the socket needed to be changed, then the shelf in the kitchen fell down. The first time I turned a blind eye to it all: well, no man’s hands in the house in-laws, so the accumulation of cases over the roof, and after my son-in-law, he began to put the house in order.
However, even after some time, the number of breakages in the mother-in-law’s house did not decrease. The son kept ignoring us, explaining his refusal by the fact that he and his wife were going to her mother’s house. Then they started celebrating all the holidays at his mother-in-law’s house, because it was just me and my father and my mother-in-law alone.
It was half the trouble when my son stopped coming to all the family celebrations, but it was quite another thing when he even started ignoring our requests for help.
We bought a refrigerator at the time and asked our son to help us carry it in. My son agreed at first, but then called and said he couldn’t make it because he and his spouse were going to her mother’s house because her washing machine was leaking.
When the spouse called the son, he heard the daughter-in-law say: “Your parents couldn’t hire movers!” The son arrived then, but he was mad as hell.
– Dad, couldn’t you call the movers? Now I have to do a lot of work here!
I then lost my nerve, and I wondered why my sister-in-law did not call a specialist herself? Maybe she is in another world and there are no such specialists? My son said that the woman needed help, because they are fooling around now at every step, they will take the money, but the car will not be repaired.
Then the husband could not stand it and said that maybe his son’s mother-in-law does not understand domestic appliances, but she is an excellent shepherd, as she manages one sheep very skillfully. Our son immediately sulked at his father and ran away. Then I did not interfere in their affairs, especially since I thought that my spouse is absolutely right, as the new kinfolk sat on my son’s neck and dangled their feet. He is there as a free plumber, plumber and repairman of household appliances, and to us and forgot his way and now he has no time to communicate with us.
After this argument, my son hasn’t spoken to his spouse in over two weeks. The father also refuses to be the first to reconcile with him. And I have to torn as if between two fires, of course my spouse is right, but I think he could have told his son more gently, and now my son holds a grudge and refuses to communicate with him, but I’m not going to lose him over such nonsense.
The spouse has refused to communicate with the son, and the son also stands his ground and says that he will not communicate with his father until he apologizes. In this situation only my sister-in-law is doing just fine!
