I got married when I was 18. My husband was 20 years older than me. I was attracted to him, because I was like a stone wall behind him. In a year we had a daughter, and then a son. My husband supported me in everything. With his help I got on my feet and graduated from college. But when our youngest son was 3, he packed his things and disappeared from our life forever.
I cried for a long time, because I just could not imagine how to survive alone with two children. I had no helpers, so I could not work. Alimony is small, how could I survive on it? Well, I struggled as best I could, and then my son was given a place in day care, and I went to work. That’s when my husband showed up. He started to ask for forgiveness and wanted to go back to the family. But I told him:
– We’ve learned to live without you. You never once thought about the kids. And now you apologize? Go away and don’t come back into our lives.
A month later he sued me, hoping to get the kids back. Naturally, he played court, the children stayed with me.
Six months later, I found out why my husband wanted to reconcile – his father made a will for our children. Alas and ah. He was left with a broken trough. It’s all behind us now, but I still remember what it was like to share a piece of bread and starve for weeks for my children.
