The pair did not want the cats to be displaced, so they decided to purchase the farmhouse – sight unseen. Now that they live there, Emily and Dylan are taking care of all fifteen felines themselves; feeding them, cleaning their litter boxes, and even giving them toys to play with. The couple has even created a Facebook page for their new brood called “The Farm Cats” which already has over 1,600 followers!

When I saw this story I couldn’t believe it! Buying a house just because there happen to be 15 cats living on the property? Why would you do something like that?! What kind of people are these two??
“The house was in pretty bad shape when we moved in – there were animal feces and urine all over the place, broken windows, and even a hole in the roof where water would come pouring through during storms. It took us about six months to fully renovate the home and make it livable again. The cats were obviously curious about what was going on, but they mostly stayed hidden away until everything was finished.”

Eventually, Emily’s patience and love paid off, and all of the cats began to approach her and allow her to pet them. “All it takes is time and lots of interaction – they will come around!” she says.
It’s nice to have a little bit of company around the farmhouse. We’ve gotten used to having a few cats follow us around, and they always swarm to us when we have treats. It’s especially nice when Valencia sprints down our driveway to greet me every time she sees my car!

In the future, we hope to see this inspiring duo establish an animal refuge where they can continue to help stray cats. Their barn cat family of 16 is a wonderful inspiration!
