After surgery and a few weeks of rehabilitation, Tommy was back on his feet (or paws!). He is now living with his loving forever family who appreciate everything he’s been through.
The woman took Tommy to a second veterinarian, who agreed that surgery was necessary but told her the cost would be much lower. She was relieved and grateful that she could afford to have him treated.
Sarah Richardson and her husband, Mike, founded Community Cats of Central Arkansas in 2017. The organization is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides resources to improve the lives of cats living outdoors in central Arkansas. Sarah is also an accomplished veterinary technician and has more than 18 years of experience working with animals.
When Sarah heard about the dog’s situation, she offered to take him into her care. She would provide all necessary medical care including amputating his leg, if needed, at no cost to the pet owner. After discussing this option with her family and veterinarian, it was decided that surgery would be best for the dog’s long-term health.
Tommy Richardson passed away at the age of 96 on October 7, 2014.Sarah was a great nurse to Tommy, and he made a full recovery!
The woman then went on to say that she became very attached to the dog, and made a habit of taking him for walks every day. She also said that she had never seen him happier than he was when he was out running around with her.
One day Sarah was sitting on the floor next to Tommy’s bed, watching him play with his toy cars. She noticed that as he maneuvered the cars around, he would make engine noises and sound effects with his mouth. It was actually really cute!
She started to talk to him about the different car models and colors, and before long they were having a conversation like two old friends.
“Tommy was an amazing cat and he brought a lot of joy to all of us,” she said. “He will be sorely missed.”
