At Cats Protection, Barney was given a much-needed dose of TLC. Volunteers there who had experience with grieving animals worked tirelessly to comfort him and help him adjust to his new situation. Slowly but surely, Barney began to heal—especially when he met another cat named Smokey who shared his love of napping in the sunbeam.
Now that Barney is living at a loving home sponsored by Cats Protection, he’s finally able to relax and enjoy life again. He spends his days lounging around on soft blankets and being loved by his human companions; Gus even comes to visit regularly! Thanks to the compassionate care he received from Cats Protection volunteers after losing his owner, Barney has been given a second chance at happiness.”
There are a few reasons why Gus may have joined Barney. One reason could be that he wanted someone to talk to and felt more comfortable around Barney than anyone else. Another reason could be that Gus was trying to help Barney feel more at ease in his new foster family, but the placement did not go as planned.
In the following months, Barney flourished and became an active member of his family. They adopted him in November 2016, and he has been a loving addition to their home ever since!
In the end, however, Gus realized that he needed Barney and allowed him to stay. This showed a great change in Gus’s character and symbolized his acceptance of responsibility.
Now, Barney and Gus are the best of friends. They even like to nap together in adorable poses!

Kat contacted Barney’s foster mom and arranged to meet the cat. She was ecstatic when she finally met her new feline friend in person, and couldn’t believe how perfect he was for her home.
A few days later, she got a call saying Barney had been adopted! When Kat met him for the first time, she was overcome with happiness.
“Barney is such a sweet cat and I’m so happy he has found his furever home.
Even though the circumstances were not ideal, Kat remained dedicated to helping Barney adjust and providing him with all the love he needs. She visits him every day at the shelter and takes care of his medical needs—including giving him medication for his anxiety. In time, she hopes to see a change in Barney’s behavior as he begins to feel more comfortable around her.
“Barney has shown me what it means to be loved unconditionally and how a simple act of kindness can change somebody’s life forever,” Kat said.
