The two gorillas, called Kumbuka and Ingozi, spent some time hugging and playing together before going their separate ways again.
The reunion was made possible by the zoo’s new program that allows close relatives to visit animals living in their exhibit. Kesho and Alf’s mother died a few years ago, so their father has been raising them on his own.
After spending time getting to know each other, the gorillas were allowed out into their enclosure where they spent hours playing together.
In fact, the Silverback gorilla is one of the most powerful animals in the world. They can weigh up to 400 pounds and have muscles that account for around 40% of their total body weight. This makes them incredibly strong relative to their size.
But despite their strength and aggression, there are moments where gorillas show compassion and caring for others – even those from different species!
The gorilla brothers were born at the Toronto Zoo on June 15, 2007. A spokeswoman said they are “quite unusual” for gorillas to behave in such a way.
