The queen was inside the car when the swarm descended upon it, and they were protecting her at all costs. It’s actually quite a sight to see, and one that most people in town will never forget!
“It was terrifying, we were going about 70mph and there were bees all around the car. They were coming in through the air vents and crawling up my leg. We had to speed up and get out of there as fast as possible,” said Mrs Howarth who later called police for help.
A swarm of bees descended on Carol and, after a tense few minutes, the buzzing horde moved on. Carol was “absolutely terrified” but suffered no serious injuries.
After the event, local beekeepers offered her some words of advice: if you are ever confronted by a swarm of bees, stay calm and don’t scream or flap your arms around – this will only aggravate them.
A swarm of some 50,000 bees descended on a busy pub in the Welsh town of Pembroke Dock.
“They told me that the bees were following me because I was wearing perfume, and they thought I was a flower!” Carol said. After she explained to the beekeepers what had happened, they laughed and told her not to wear perfume when she was around her beehive again.
A swarm of bees is attracted to something in a car, perhaps something sweet. As for the origins of the rogue bee, that remains a mystery.
