The video, originally uploaded by user Ricardo Branco on YouTube, has been viewed over 9 million times as of this writing. It shows a retired police dog named Negra wagging her tail and crying tears of joy after seeing her former handler for the first time in years.
According to reports, Branco is an animal control officer in Vila Franca de Xira Police Department in Portugal. He and Negra worked together from 2004 until she retired in 2014. The two had apparently grown very close during that time and developed a strong bond of mutual trust and respect. When they met again earlier this year, it was clear that their rapport had not diminished one bit despite the passage of time.
The touching reunion was caught on camera. The officers were extremely happy to see each other and Wangwang couldn’t stop wagging her tail in excitement. At one point, the dog even jumped into her handler’s arms for a hug! It is so heartwarming to see their strong bond despite being separated for a while.
The policeman, touched by the display of emotion, squats down and embraces Wangwang tightly. The reunion was made even more special as it happened days before Christmas.
Wangwang is a six-year-old female giant panda who has been living at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in Sichuan province since she was born.
