One kind-hearted person found the bird and used a blow dryer to try and free it, but that didn’t work. So he got some cooking oil from his kitchen and poured it on the frozen feet of the bird in an attempt to loosen them up. It worked! After a few minutes of being soaked in cooking oil, the little bird was able to fly away!

What an amazing story – we are so glad this little guy made it out okay!
Wilson is being hailed as a hero for his kind actions, and we couldn’t agree more! “As I watched, the bird tried unsuccessfully to take flight. It hopped up and down a few times in its efforts to free itself but was unsuccessful. Finally it simply gave up and fell off the fence onto the frozen ground below where it lay motionless. Within minutes that sparrow had become another victim of one of Idaho’s unforgiving winters,” Wilson continued.

Wilson photographed the unfortunate bird and then contacted area wildlife officials who came out to retrieve the body and hopefully learn how it got there.

Once the bird’s feet were warm, he was able to carefully remove it from the fence and release it back into the wild.
